South Plant where the car is built, an
energy- and waste-efficient surface
treatment process is being used in the
paint shop.
Regal, Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac ATS-L are
produced in a volume of about 300,000 per
year, that commonly used phosphating treat-
ment process has negative features including
high energy consumption, high heavy metal
content and high solid- and liquid-waste
streams.
So it is no wonder that the SAIC-GM plant
switched to Bonderite M-NT 1820 thin film
pretreatment in its paint shop.
The new material allows the coating process
to be performed at room temperature. It fits
all metal substrates. Heavy metals, solid waste
and waste water are significantly reduced.
The surface conditioning and passivation
processes can be skipped.
All of which mean reduced time, waste,
equipment, energy, electricity, water and
chemicals.
