Supplying to the Automotive Industry: How to use 3D measurement data to win business In recent years, The original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the automotive industry have enhanced their vehicle development process to incorporate 3-Dimensional holistic views of their parts and systems. OEMs have grown and streamlined their processes to utilize 3D measurement data— not only in design, tool and die construction, vehicle integration, matching, launch, and steady state process control—but also in their part procurement process. The PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) is growing within the OEMs to not only include statistical measurements and capabilities from key dimensional locations, but also entire part and assembly 3D analysis. This trend began with sheet metal parts in the body and stamping processes— but is quickly expanding to include powertrain, interiors, exteriors, and chassis components. What You Will Learn: • The progression and use of 3D data by the leading automotive OEMs—and how it applies to their processes. • How the OEMs use 3D data to evaluate supplier parts. • What automotive suppliers can do to improve their processes and demonstrate world- class capabilities to meet the evolving requirements of OEMs in today's 3-Dimensional world.
